According to the figures there is around €35 million in copper coins sitting unused in homes around Ireland. That’s the driving force behind National Coin Week, running from November 2nd – 8th, which urges people to let their small coins make a big difference to charities.
If you’ve got spare coins at home, and you’d like to help a worthy cause, simply drop them into a Change for Charity collection unit – there’s one in every AIB and Bank of Ireland around the country, as well as a number of retail outlets.
The five main charity partners are the Irish Heart Foundation, Irish Autism Action, St. Francis Hospice, GAISCE and Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services. Profits from the endeavour will be split six ways – equally to the above five charities, with the sixth share reserved for smaller charities, community projects and youth groups who can all apply for smaller amounts of funding.
