Kickstarting dreams

Many of us have hopes and dreams which require a lot of effort and careful financial planning in order to achieve them; relentlessly saving the pennies for years on end to afford that dream house, or taking a second job (if you can find a first) to afford a newer car. Or you could just set up a Kickstarter fund and hope you find favour with the world.

Louth man Paul Boyle is definitely a proponent of the latter strategy. In his own words: “I’m looking to raise enough money to plan and construct the famous known house in GTA V. I want to include the interior and exterior of the property as it is projected in the video game,” he writes on his Kickstarter page, which seeks a figure of €1,670,000 (€35 raised so far).

In the popular game, this particular house was home to one of the three main characters – Michael de Santa – and his family. With three bedrooms, a large living room, two car garage, tennis court, and a swimming pool, it’s not your average home. The house is set in the affluent neighbourhood of Rockford hills in the fictional city of Los Santos, a take on the real-life location of Beverly Hills. If it’s reproduced in real life, however, the location won’t be quite as exotic, as Boyle has settled on Carlingford, Co Louth. A beautiful area in its own right, but not quite the location you’d expect.

Doyle says he has already been in touch with several construction and design companies about the feasibility of the project and, once it’s finished, the property will be sold and the proceeds donated to charity. A self described “keen computer and video game enthusiast and occasional cigar smoker,” Boyle will have to wait until March 5th to discover whether his dream will become a reality.
