Thinking of saving a few euro by securing a dress, for the debs or a wedding, on the internet? According to the European Consumer Centre (ECC), people should be careful when buying dresses (or other items) online.
The ECC has reported that it has received a number of complaints this summer regarding “rogue dress websites.” It said that problems came about because some traders weren’t actually based in the country they claimed to operate from, with some working outside the EU entirely – leading to problems with delivery times. EU consumer law may not then apply to products bought outside the EU.
The ECC strongly advises any consumers considering making such a purchase online to do thorough research on the seller, check contact details and any available customer feedback. Consumers should also be wary of offers which are drastically low or seem too good to be true, and to use a safe payment method – like a credit card – which could provide you with bank or credit card company assistance if you run into trouble.
