Ireland’s Guide To Money And Living

New driver savings

New drivers mapichaiSome useful advice via the Irish Independent – Jonathan Hehir, managing director of online insurer www.coverinaclick.ie, offers a few handy tips to help new drivers manage their costs.

Besides the more obvious suggestions, such as passing your driving test to avail of cheaper insurance, and keeping your L or N plates up to avoid fines (€60 if you’re caught), Hehir advises new drivers to plan ahead to avail of discounts given out by some companies to drivers who have between six months and a year’s experience on a parent’s policy.

Hehir also recommends that drivers get different quotes on different engine sizes to weigh up their options, and to shop around, particularly if you’re insuring your child for the first time – it’s not always certain to be cheaper when insuring someone under your own policy, and separate cover may be the right option.
