Though once upon a time you’d take a family photo on a handheld purpose-built camera, then either print it on special paper at home, or make the trip to the chemist with a roll for development, these days taking and treasuring family memories largely revolves around your smartphone. Sure, you can print from your phone or Facebook page at chemist kiosks, but how many of us go to the trouble anymore? It’s not always the cheapest solution, and with smartphones we essentially carry around huge photo albums in our pockets.
That seems to be at least some of the inspiration behind iBop, a start up which will print photos from your smartphone on high quality photo paper, and send them to you in a nice photo book. On the reverse of the photos, they’ll print the location, time and date the photo was taken. And all of this is offered for free.
Obviously somebody, somewhere, will have to pay for this and as a result, alongside the photo details, iBop will also include a message from an advertising partner. This could be shopping coupons, discounts or invitations to try out new products.
An Irish invention, the app is due to be launched in the US in November 2014 and in Ireland in December, just in time for Christmas. And to cap it all off, if you register your interest now you’ll be entered into a draw for a shiny new smartphone – your choice of an iPhone 6 or a Samsung Galaxy S5.
