Welcome to the future

There’s no doubt that technology has made our lives far easier, if somewhat more disconnected, perhaps. We can video chat with friends or relatives on the far side of the world, plot the quickest and most traffic-free routes with our sat navs (though one shouldn’t depend on these too much) or even pay for our groceries with a simple tap of a debit card.

And the developments continue to arrive. Just like Amazon’s Dash Button – a little gadget that you can keep wherever you store food or other supplies; just tap when you’re running low and Amazon will soon be at your door with refills.

Credit union survival

In other news, credit union members in Mayo will be relieved after a rescue fund provided financial support for the merger of the Castlebar and Ballyhaunis branches.

More than 100 credit unions are in talks that could see them merge to form larger entities.
